If you're serious about walleye, the Umatilla/Hermiston Oregon area is about a 4 hour drive from Boise via I-84. Do-able for a weekend trip. Fishing between McNary Dam and the downstream Irigon or Boardman area you'd have a shot at a state record sized walleye this time of year. Forget about bank fishing. You'd either have to find someone in that area willing to provide a seat in their boat, or connect with one of the local guides. Probably more expense than you were planning on, but where else do you get a decent shot at fish weighing in at double digit weights. My first exploratory trip over there I hooked up with a guide to learn the waters, fishery, etc. Caught my biggest-ever walleye....a 15-1/4 lb female, that I released. Don't get over there often, but when I do, nice sized walleye, bass, and a few steelhead end up in the fish box. Good luck.
