Ron I used to haul my 9ft scaddin expidition pontoon on original tahoe roof rack no problem then the durango no problem till one night 10:30 coming home from trip heard snap crackle pop. It flew so quick lucky no one was behind me and only damage was 30.00 seat nothing bent torn or popped.(North fork builds a tuff toon) and a 300.00 rack. If you guys look at the original racks the slide rails mounted on the roof are plastic. i've got a truck with a fiberglass shell yakima on my shell. They are side mount. The side mounts are supposed to have the most strength. Have had them on for 7 years no problem i've hauled 9 foot and my current one is 10 1/2 ft they aren't going anywhere I'd throw my 14 foot aluminum boat on it thats how much I trust it.
