Once the Aquaseal is cured, it does not soften and lose its grip. Nor does it stick to other surfaces, once cured.
If you are doing the repair at home, after a trip, and with no pressure to get it fixed to hit the water quickly, you simply leave the "blobbed" hole resting on a level surface for about 24 hours. It will cure in less time, if the temperature is higher , but the result will be better if you can just "set it and forget it."
The good news is that if you are on a trip, and time is precious, the Cotol accelerant shortens the cure time to about 2 hours. Come in for a long lunch, goop the hole and dine. Maybe take a short nap or tinker with your tackle. In relatively little time, you have a permanent, clear, flexible patch. And, unlike many adhesives and patches, the patch IS waterproof. I have never had a failure, in spite of some extreme tests.
I wish I had the exclusive distributor rights on that stuff. I would make a buncha money...and make a lot of fishermen happy too.
By the way, once you open the tube and bottle, put them in the freezer. They will keep forever, and do not evaporate like most of the adhesives for standard patches. How many patch kits have you had that the adhesive had dried up when you needed to do a patch job?
