Is it safe to adjust drag while hooked?

Hey guys, first post here.

One of the questions I've always had is if it's safe to adjust the drag on a spinning reel once you're hooked.

Let's say I realize the drag was set very low and I want to tighten it up a bit. Are there any potential problems in doing this?
