A Magic story, I heard about this catch on the grapevine and having avidly read your account which gave me great pleasure please accept my congratulations.
I have been lucky enough over the years to have witnessed a few large Blue Marlin catches,Capt Roddy Hayes in Maderia used to get a few Granders every season which people found hard to believe until I introduced Gene Vander Heok of Sea Genie II to the venue taking him with me to fish with Roddy. In fact when fishing with Gene in Kona and telling him the stories of the Big Marlin of Madeira both Genes crewman asked me to get them jobs out there which I did with Dana Boardman actually crewing for Roddy. I captained the British Sportfishing team in Kona for the two top tournaments but my best trip with Gene was a private one where I took two guys from the UK to fish Kona, great to say it was a perfect trip with them both catching Blues for the first time. On that trip I caught my biggest ever Yellowfin a fish of 199lbs a British Record that still stands today. Having run my own boat a 42' Hatteras in the virgin seas of the Maldives for three years back in the early 90's your description of fighting the fish from the bridge brings back a lot of good memories. Now to old I am forced to retire from a lifetime of fishing but will never lose the memories of some great and happy days, some great catches and some good friends. My Yellowfin is on my page at bigfishtackle and I wish you more great catches to come, tight lines and kind regards
Mike
