I haven't been on that particular stretch of the river, so you'd probably know better than me, but I'd wager those cows you referred to do a heck of a lot more damage to the banks than a whole heard (or flock, gaggle, school, whatever it's called [
]) of beavers would do. In fact beavers are sometimes used as restoration tools, to improve and create habitat.
Again, not trying to stir the pot or anything, I know you're trying to help the river and that's what counts. But like I said, I'd take beavers over cows any day of the week.
