Maybe we should take this article for how it was intended and learn from it. I think it was very informative, I know the fish I release from now on will have a much better chance of survival.
One other thing that I have learned from this forum is how fast the gills will freeze when the temps are at zero or below. I was fishing a week ago and found that if the fish was out of the water for longer than about 20 seconds the gills would start bleeding for no apparent reason, but after reading the post about not laying fish in the snow, I know what was happening. I started releasing the fish in the hole instead of pulling them out of the water, it was more difficult, but I know those fish survived, where some of the others seemed to be happy to get back in the water, but probably just swam to the bottom.
