Dogs on ice
#30
I was trolling Ririe last spring and when I got back to the dock, there were 2 couples in their mid twenties or so fishing off the dock. They had a pitbull tied to the aluminum ramp handles that spans the gap right at the start of the dock (if you could picture that).

Anyways, I had two nephews with me (10 and 11) so I told them to stay in the boat and under no circumstances go near the dog. As I walked up the dock I asked the kid to move his dog, he said "oh she's harmless". As I got closer the dog snarled at me and made a move towards me. Now keep in mind, I either have to walk in the water around the dog or walk right past it on the 2 ft wide ramp. I calmly drew my XDM on the pup and asked the kid "am I going to have to shoot your dog or are you going to put her in your car? He politely removed her from the dock.

I know this is dramatic but I was a little hypersensitive after reading about all the pitbull attacks prior to the trip, and the fact that I had two little kids with me increased my agitation.

That being said, I love friendly dogs on the ice and I don't mind whatsoever if a friendly dog stops by and visits, not one bit.

edited: PS, not only this drama but they were parked on the good side of the ramp right at the water.
It is hard to not flame the crap out of you, but i will hold back.

Like there are numerous stories in the paper each day?
come on, a pit bull is just a dog. Don't believe all the crap you read.
I live right here in IF and I haven't read of a pitbull attack in yrs.
I have had pitbulls as FAMILY pets for more than 30 years, and they have been absolutly wonderful.
I currently have a 80 pound male that would probably make YOU pee in your pants. But if you looked past your media induced fear you would meet 80 pounds of love muscle that wants nothing more than a kind word and a scratch behind the ear.
Now with that said, you wouldn't find me on the end of the dock at Ririe, or anywhere near the dock with my dog.
(Mostly because of idiots that don't know anything other than what they read in the paper) I tend to take my dog only to very out of the way places, to protect him from gun toting inbreds with itchy triger fingers that think they need to pack fire arms with them to places with tons of people and kids out having fun in the sun.
