First off.....ITS ALL ABOUT BEING A SNOB [:p]
On the dog and fishing topic. Obedience is the key, like anything with a dog if its trained well..... always welcome. If not leave it at home.
I fish often with my pops, he has a 4yr old Chessie that I have helped to train and she is dynomite on waterfowl. But she loves to go in after fish, comes from taking her fishing from the time she was a pup, she sees something in the water and she thinks her job is to snatch it up. Can be frusturating when in the boat and she decides its game on [crazy] I know when in the conditions described by the OP I wouldnt bother taking her out for the day as she is fearless of water/ice combo and would get herself into trouble at some point.
When conditions are sketchy....... as the older educated people in the situation we need to maybe pull the plug for kids/pets. Just my 2 pennies. I know when we snowmobile and the conditions get bad we are extremely selective of who and where we go cause its only fun if everyone comes home in one peace.[
