Frabil has been making gear to support fishing for years. Ice houses and nets were their entry points. That is a lot of money to spend on a reel and rod for ice fishing for all but a few species of fish in large sizes. I have over a hundred ice rods and each has a reel on it. Average price was right around $10.00. I prefer the level wind type reel to the hay bailer as it is never effected by cold or moisture like the more complicated bail type reels. Also the line doesn't tend to come off in loops or get twisted as it does with the open face reels.
For deep jigging for macs I have sturdier rods and run my old Shimano Calcutta 251's on them. Still level wind tech but I'm able to fight fish in the 20lb. range without much concern. This kind of tech is way overkill for most of the trout, kokes and panfish we generally chase.
