[cool][#0000ff]I don't claim to be the final authority on the subject, but I have put in a lot of original research since the subject came up last year. I am satisfied that trout caught through the ice are in no greater peril than those taken in open water...especially those caught during the extreme warm temps of late summer. Proper respect for the fish and proper handling are the keys to the survival of released trout.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]My main reason for jumping in was that ice anglers on several boards have been attacked by non ice fishermen for killing fish by allowing them to rest on snow or ice during dehooking or photo taking sessions. Almost invariably the attacks are from those who DO NOT ice fish and whose "logic" is clouded by a passionate worship of their beloved troutskis...even lowly hatchery pets. As with many things in life, folks who do not play the game are trying to make the rules...to suit themselves and not the players.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I am an old "Idaho spud" myself and spent my formative years fishing SE Idaho waters. I still have family and friends there and enjoy fishing in the old honey holes. I'm glad to see how active the Idaho board has become and enjoy following the reports. Keep up the good work. [/#0000ff]
