Windriver and Jigs,
I felt I had pretty good ice, but just in the time I spent there it got really slushy. As far as the rumors of 18'' I would not doubt it; I fish in a place to maintain fast action and it usually produces for me. I am also trying for kokes, but this time I picked up nothing on the Vex. I caught a couple two years ago. In the past if I ice fished to the far creek end I have caught bigger fish, but again I get into a mixed bag where I set up and this appeals to me. I would suggest getting there and set up by 7;00, so you can have the really fast action. I would not rule out a 100 fish day if a person stayed from 7:00-5:00.
Windriver,
I know that family trip is really important to you and I know you would get into the fish. If you stayed in Soda Springs you could go catch your hogs at Chesterfield. Try for big perch or many small fish at Alexander, and finally spend a full day at Montpelier. Other unque fishing options would be 24 Mile, Skinner Pond (Dingle) and Little Valley (If you can get to it.) If you had snow mobiles Bloomington Lake would be a scenic trip you would never forget. I only have ice fished it once in a low snow year in November and I did well. I know you like to swim so you always have Lava, Maple Grove, Riverdale, and Bear Lake (May be closed) Hot Springs in ths area.
