Researchers in Australia are working on a genetically modified strain of carp that only produces male offspring. They're called daughterless carp. The idea is to release them into the wild, then let them breed with normal carp. Kind of like how they broke the life cycle of the screwfly here in the US. Eventually there will be fewer and fewer female carp. It's a very long term solution, and still a few years from actual trials, but I think it's about the only hope for eradicating them permanently.
