It really is something to catch fish on a fly you tied yourself. I also like to do it because I can tie flies I can't find to buy. I don't tie anything too small or difficult because it just takes too much time. Big easy ties, those are the ones I do.
It's a bit like loading your own ammo for big game or making your own arrows and then getting something with it.

I had a pattern I couldn't find that i tied up and it worked pretty good on the Provo. After I lost a few fishing it turned up at Sportsman's for a little while. It is called a Stayner Duck. I caught a my biggest ever smallmouth on it at Jordanelle as well as browns and rainbows.
