No, you can't get much detail. I would love to find something that is more like Google Earth in detail but haven't run across it yet. It would be nice to check some snow or water areas closer, but I am ok with what I use it for now.
I knew about some of the sat and weather sat pictures when I was teaching as I used them to illustrate some things in our area. But I really started looking for better and closer to real time when smoke became an issue for my lungs.
I was exposed to some bad smoke and diesel fumes, and I ended up with some permanent airway damage. Now I react to smoke and have to leave when fires start up in the area. The sat maps help me to know where it is coming from, how large of an area, and what other fires are out there to avoid. In other words what direction to go. They show many of them quite well such as the picture of the Utah Twitchell fire that I put in up at the top of this post.
