Went fishing at L. Perris today
#4
Hi eg-fisher,
I taught myself how to bass fish just by watching other people. The more you go for bass, the better you will get. Experience and time on the water is key. You will eventually find out what works at different places. Just keep trying new baits and experimenting with colors. If you are just starting, I recommend sticking with a 4 or 6 inch worm. Experiment until you find out what the fish want.
When you get bit don't be impatient, wait until the fish actually pics up the bait and starts swimming with it to set the hook. Make sure that your drag is set before casting.
Perris unfortunately has not been that great from shore since they dropped the water level. A lot of the good structure is now out of the water. It has been a tough bite.
Good spots to try at Perris is the launch ramp area and the marina.
With this advice I only ask that you catch and release. If you get a big one just take a picture and let the fish go to fight another day.
DVL is an excellent lake but has been slow from shore lately. Maybe when the weather starts to cool down it will pick back up.
Let me know next time you go, maybe I will meet you there.
Tight Lines!!!
