I use stink bait/dip bait fairly regularly up there and usually have pretty good success.
The only kind that I've found that doesn't work is the stuff that comes in a tube, where you cut the tip and then pump it into a tube/bait holder. The stuff is really runny and probably works great for ponds, but where water is moving it doesn't stay in there worth crap.
Cabelas has a stink bait that looks like it comes in a peanut butter jar that has paid for itself, but my favorite is the stuff you can get from Howards in Nampa. Looks like a big tub, you can't miss it.
For the tubes/holders, bigger is not necessarily better. At Cabela's they have in different colors these 3" ribbed worms with a treble hook at the bottom that have worked wonders the last few years for me. The may look small, but I can't tell you how many cats I've missed using the bigger holders.
The only other tidbit I could give you, with the weather cooling down a bit, take some cooking oil to put in the bait and stir it up. Don't use too much, just a couple capfulls at a time. You want it to look the consistency of, pardon the term here, a fresh juicy turd. Bring a stout stick from home too, you don't want to try to stir that stuff with the sticks you'll find up there. Good times, let us know how you do. The more people we can get fishing with stinkbait, the less of an outcast I'll feel. Oh, and I'm working on a formula for my own, should be testing it out on 09/08 up there. I'll keep ya posted.
