Our daughter owns a safari company in Kenya and Tanzania, and was in need of a quality camera to use for nature pics on the safaris. We researched it a lot, and decided on the Panasonic Lumix Z26 at Costco. It has 12X optical zoom, 16X intelligent zoom, a big 3"LCD, 12 megapixels, leather carrying case and all the bells and whistles, for $269. On Aug. 28th the current sale goes off Costco.com and the price increases by $20. This is one of the most highly rated point and shoots. She reports that she loves it.
