When I use flashers, I just hook them directly to my downrigger ball, then run a wedding ring about 15-20 feet behind from a clip set about 2 ft. above the ball. That way you can use any kind or size of trolling gear you want with no drag when you're fighting the fish. Also I run just a wedding ring or hoochie and a dodger without flashers. I've also used Macks Lure brand Flashlites Mylar blade flashers when I'm using leadcore line, very little resistance. Hooking up metal trolling blades to your mainline is gruesome. [:p]
