This is the type of anchor I like for small craft because it can be lighter weight due to the dull, scooping, no puncture prongs and because it stores in a small space.

Note there are different weights available and one at the bottom of the page for around $5 so you don't take a big $ loss if it snags. Sometimes using a longer anchor line can make up for a lightweight anchor's low holding power, but the downside is your holding position may drift around more.

Yes, I know some of my unusual suggestions are not for everyone. Just like to think out of the box, sometimes that might help someone.

Ps. Don't need an anchor for the river fishing I do, as I can hover with a troll or simply stand up close enough to the areas I will work. This is the type of anchor I have used in small, deeper water lakes. The open position can be locked more securely with a rigged piece of copper wire when the water is rough.
