sounds to me like your fishing some rough terain. If that is indeed the case, switch to weedless hooks.
if your snagging trees with your cast, try not casting as far untill you master that particular weight.
if your snagging that stuff off the bottom of the lake or river, speed up your retreive, and dont use diving crank baits, Reeling in diving crank baits only makes them go to the bottom faster.
