Well, I got back to Idaho at 0400 on Sunday morning! All I can say is WOW what a trip! If you haven't fished for tuna in oregon or washington go try it now!
Our day started out bright and early, and we had to motor out to the warm water about 30 miles out, which took a couple of hours. But as soon as we got there it got really silly really fast! To start the day off, the deck hand was getting the very first guy's line set at the right distance from the boat (or trying to), his line might have been in the water for 5 seconds at the most before a fish hit it! That should give you an indication of how fast and furious the action was! We ended up with 58 fish on board (I know not as good as EZOP's trip [
]). I landed 13 of them which was a kick in the pants.
We were trolling the whole time. I was hoping to be able to cast for some but trolling worked just fine. When somebody (or three or four people at once!) got a fish on while trolling the rest of us had to reel our jigs in so as not to tangle while people chased their fish around the boat. but I figured out that if I waited just a few seconds then tried to match the trolling speed as I reeled and as the boat slowed down I could frequently talk a fish into biting. This was by far my favorite way to get them because as I would reel my lure in it would skip across the surface and I could watch it. It was pretty cool to see a big blue lightning bolt come up and smack my lure 20 feet from me! It was like dry fly fishing or top water bass fishing but 10 times better!
Here's some pictures: (notice in the first one how the fish is trying to shake my arm off!)
