ODC420 inflatable seat conversion
#6
Well, I took out the ODC420 with air mattress seat for the 5th time yesterday. Sprung a leak at the seams in one of the air mattress tubes while on the water. Good news was that the remaining 5 tubes held me up easily for the remainder of the trip. Bad news was that the leak was unrepairable from the outside, being at the seam. So I squirted a couple of tablespoons of green "slime" (used to seal bike tubes) into the air mattress tube and tilted the tube to the section where the leak was. So far that has solved the leak problem overnight, so I did the same for the remaining tubes, as a precautionary measure. The seams themselves seem to be holding solid under high pressure, just some tiny pinhole leaks had developed. Just saying, in case someone else might be thinking of trying this mod.
The closed cell seat cushion and lumbar support really help with comfort is what I noticed when compared to lack of.

One other thing I noticed is the energy required to propel the ODC420 is much higher compared to my pontoons. Even with my feet out of water, the speed was slower and range about 50% using a troll motor, compared to even my slowest pontoon.

Hope this helps.
