Hi again Klymons,
I'm sure most of our gentle readers agree with our posts and it might be fun to have about 15 of us similar thinkers on a boat sometime!
Now, you've done it! That is a really a hard question! I have my favorite Catalina guy, favorite Sand Bass guy, favorite Calico Bass guy, lite tackle and plastics guy, and on and on. Some skippers can do it all and that's fantastic.
I have found through riding with a skipper long enough, one can pretty well know 1) what kind of bait he can get (or tends to chose), 2) what receiver, 3) How and how far he likes to run the boat, 4) HIS favorite type of fishing, 5) His confidence species, 5) Attitude towards the fish stocks, and finally 6) how well he gets along with other captians whether it be from his landing or not.(potential to get spots passed off, etc., etc.).
With this information, one can decide if that skipper is in tune with what you the angler feels meets your needs. I honestly have no skipper that I would say was better at every aspect (conbined) I mentioned than the others. Just call me a non-aligned angler on this one. ha ha
Also, I must admit, I'm a 3/4 day boat person so most of the captains I know on the open-party boats (as opposed to the occasional charter) operate their boats in a way much differnt than the 1/2 day, all day, and overnighters. I can say that I have favorites at no less than seven landings from Redondo to Newport. Sorry about that MDR and the New Del Mar. No offense meant.
