I totally agree with you about those drunken bozos who snivel and whine and blame everybody but themselves for the poor fishing. They are also the same guys who sail jigs right past your ear and then get irritated if you mention it. However, I do expect to catch fish on a sportboat, otherwise, why bother? If I just wanted a boat ride I could go on one those harbor excursion cruises. Now sometimes you don't catch fish--that's part of the game. But I do expect the captain to make a reasonable effort to find fish. If I see that the captain has really worked hard to hook us up--but the fish seemed to have lockjaw that day--I may grumble about not catching anything, but I won't blame the captain. But if the captain is one of those lazy bozos who just sits up in the wheelhouse twiddling his thumbs, then I feel my complaints are legit. Of course, there are no guarantees in fishing. Sometimes even the best captains end up driving home with empty gunnysacks flapping in the breeze. But at least they gave it their best shot--and that's all you can ask.
