Hi,Evelynn welcome . As for blue gill fishing I use 4' ultra light rod and reel combo,with 4 to 8 lb line. The lures are the smallest i can find in white or chartruse or nitecrawlers and corn on size 8,10,12 hooks. hope this helps good luck
