I sure appreciated everyone's opinion on this and ended up purchasing the sharkskin line. I figured the pros heavily outweighed the cons.
I tried it out for the first time last week with and loved it!!
I remember the first time I caught a fish on a fly that I had personally tied and thought that was one of the coolest things ever. I trumped that last week catching my first fish on my first made fly rod in conjuction with flies that I had tied. I literally giggled with excitement the entire afternoon.
