I've been reading this message board for a year or more, but have never felt the need to register until today.
Your biology professor must have been a really old and interesting guy. Lake Lowell was created in 1906-1909. He must have been close to 80 years old in 1976, if he was around when they were building the dams. I don't believe DDT or any other pesticides were even available to have been dumped in the ground before the lake was created.
I have lived on Lake Lowell for 52 years. It is a very tough lake to learn to fish, but can be very productive at times. If you take the time to learn the lake it will reward you will some great catches - and also some very frustrating outings. But don't worry about barrels of toxic waste buried out in the middle.
