it does move the stoneflys around quite a bit. but it doesnt effect their population negativley it actually makes it easier on them because it washes them into grass and trees where they can hatch. last year when the river was raging i think it was the first week of july there was supposably no stone fly action going on on the southfork my buddy and i went out and had to wade through some of the scariest stuff i have ever seen we found a huge group of trout feeding on the surface i looked down at the grass by where we were standing and there were golden stones crawling all over the grass so long story short i had some dry golden stone patterns with me we tied them on and had one of the best days of fishing i have ever had we actually got sick of catching fish and left early.
