It will be interesting to see what they do. 24,000 would be pushing flood stage, so not sure it will be that high. I thought I read it some where on the F&G website that the flush was not working and that is was going to stop. I can't remember where I read it tho. If the flush was working, I do not think that F&G would be tagging fish and telling people to keep every Rainbow they catch. This tagging plan seems like a last ditch effort to control the bows before the feds step in because nothing else is working.
As far as what levels to be on the river. I would not be on the river on anything around 15,000 or up. The fishing seems to slow, river gets dirty from washing things downstream that have been dry all winter, and it becomes quite swift in places. Anything over 20,000 starts to get crazy as in death wish crazy.
I should point out I have fished the SF at 40,000 in 97' and did catch a few fish, but I was on the bank and right below the dam where it was still some what clear. It was an impressive sight to see the overflow gate open. Just past the campground below the dam it turned to mud from the bank erosion that was happening. Part of the campground disappeared while we were there for the 3 days and the fence on the west bank below the overflow was completely under water. Even the chain link fence above the main outlets was tore off.
