white bass tips?

i was wondering is anyone could give me some advice for fishing white bass? the river i fish at is 4-6' deep where they are nesting and i have a spinning outfit. i tried using rooster tails which everyone from work said to use but i couldnt get a one. i tried using a very small crank and got a few. i was wondering if some tips for presentation or anything that might help me out a bit. thanks for any info
