I agree that killing white fish is wasteful. I've always thrown them back, largely because I have no idea how to prepare them. Suckers on the other hand are not a native species and while I don't like to find them on the shore I am not above killing them before I throw them back in the water. At least this way it helps fertilize the waters in a sense. It's the same concept of the Salmon in coastal areas that die after spawning. Their decomposition provides nutrients to the waters allowing the fish and plant life there to survive.
