I have to agree with you about keeping trout out of weedy lakes. I saw someone taking a nice 20"+ rainbow out of Weston last summer and I was just thinking what a waste that is. I ate one I injured there once and it was the worst thing fish wise that I've ever tasted.
On the subject of killing whitefish and suckers, I'm definitely not for it. Aren't the whitefish considered a game species? That right there makes it illegal. I'm not sure about Idaho, but I know that it says in the Utah reg book that even leaving non game species on the shore to rot is illegal. It's just plain gross. I've come across several huge suckers on The Narrows that were left to die in the shallows. It always makes me feel bad. At least take it home and use it for catfish bait or something if you must kill it.
