LSR83, I was not refering to you at all. I have just seen guys pull in to a run, and drop anchor right in the middle of the slot that everyone was working, throw out their kwikfish or whatever, and totally screw up the "machine" that was working there. We had one slot, not very long, that had 11 boats working it all morning with no issues . 2 guys pull in, anchor up, and ruined it for everyone.
The nice thing about these forums is we can all learn in a positive environment, instead of altercations on the river/at the boat ramp where someone gets punched or his tires slashed. We go fishing for the enjoyment (at least most do) and not to have problems. Those that do not know better probably just have never been taught.
Most guys that fish the Clearwater upriver of the Potlatch plant backtroll. Down in the pond it is an anchor up and hogline type fishery. One of the big issues with anchoring in the upper river is the current, and the dangers of anchoring in high water with lots of logs and crap flowing down.
If you chose to anchor, wear a PFD while deploying and retrieving the anchor, keep a knife handy to cut the rope in an emergency, and keep an eye upriver at all times. No fish is worth your life. I have seen whole pines floating downstream.
