Careful at "Da 'Berry"
#5
[cool]Kayote. Item one. I would love to get some guide service in your part of the state. I did hit some of the local waters during my years in Utah, but not to the extent of the fishin' holes closer to SLC. Also, I have spent lots of time in boats, so I promise not to embarrass myself too badly. Then again, we might do a tube and 'toon duet somewhere. I ain't proud.

Item two. I am very familiar with Baytubers. Kiyo and I PM and echat back and forth. He is busy with his radio show and all that, but we share a few members on the float tubing site.

When I first started tubing, back in the sixties, I was probably one of the first idiots to take a donut into salt water. I was a kid then. What did I know. I did find out that flotation fishing was a great way to catch some of the larger inshore fish...like the halibut so dearly loved by the Baytubers.

I have also taken some serious Calicos...your new icon...from my donut dinghy. Man, hanging a toad calico up close and personal is a religious experience. At least it beats the hell out of you. Only problem when fishing for those bigguns, from a tube, is that you don't have enough "lift" to keep them from playing "in and out the kelp fronds"...or diving into the rocks. It doesn't matter how heavy your string is, you just don't have enough "platform" to put the hurt on them. That's one of the areas a yak is definitely superior. You can battle some big boys from a good yak. And, if a current comes up, you can move faster and farther on top of the water than you can if you are partially submerged and relying only on fin power.

Did you ever spend much time on the sand bass? I hear the action has been pretty good off the Huntington Flats and the Horseshoe Kelp areas. Limits for all on bass and barries. (whimper, whimper)
