trout bead question

wow never meant to stir the pot like this, my question one just regarding there effectiveness as i use to used a lot of salmon eggs growing up but remember that one missed hit and your drift was over. what i was thinking was using one as a dropper under a floating fly on the rivers i fish or just drifting the bead down line from a small split shot. As far as snagging a fish seems like there would be a lot more effective ways to do it
