I don't see where the length of the leader would be any kind of an issue. Heck, if you used pinch on sinkers you may not even have a leader of any kind! Either way, the bead should be a short distance from the hook so that when the fish hits it and you set the hook the hook will ideally set in the corner of the jaw or just on the outside of the mouth. The steelhead I caught on these this year all had the hook embedded in the side of the mouth.
