It has always been clear when I have been there. It does drop down to almost 50' deep by the dam. There are small LMB, Perch, BG, Rainbows, Tiger Musky and a few Crappie in there. Tried ice fishing it this year and did not do so well. The side where the water comes in is fairly shallow, but if you want to catch some LMB in the 10-12" range all day, that is the place. The Perch and BG size seems to go up and down. Last year they were around 8" on the perch and 6" on the BG.
