Riverdog, I like you have spent many years in the past decade fishing in another state. Mine was just MT. It is a world of difference from any other state in the west as far as public access. I think it is worth the extra money to be able to stay below the high water mark and fish miles up stream. I cant think of any better way to run things. Also for the most part people are more wiling to give you access if you show a little respect and passion for the outdoors. My dad and I have a spot on the beaver head and a couple more rivers near twin bridges that we have made relationships with the land owners for years and now have full access to drive in our trucks, right through the cattle fields and through a couple gates, just based on the pure fact that they trust us. Wyoming seems to be a little tougher, as far as willingness to let strangers fish the rivers that go through their property that they themselves dont fish. I am not sure if I would even be that generous. It just goes to show that if you find the right landowners(the ones who dont use their land recreationally) your attitude and personality can gain you access alone. That goes for hunting too.
