Steely Madness 3/29-3/30
#1
I just got back from a trip with my 8 year old boy and he is hooked now too... Monday I landed 23 steelhead the majority of which were wild fish. I had to fish until 730 pm to finally get that last keeper. from six until 730 I caught 8 wild fish before catching that 5th keeper. I also didn't have a net so I would have to tail the fish in the shallows and lost a few keepers that a net would have got. They are definately strong fish they kinda went nuts when I would try grab them. my boy got to reel in 4 fish on the flyrod, and already is talking about getting his own along with waders ect. The rains have made the river come up. This morning it was 6 inches or so higher than yesterday. It seemed to slow things a bit. I fished from about 900 am to 1100 and hooked 9 fish 5 of which I landed. 3 of those were wild fish and 2 keepers one of the keepers was hooked by the fin so Sadly had to be turned back. It was a blast. I hope things just keep getting better as more fish make their way upstream. The weather is suppose to be rain and snow all week so I'm sure the river will continue to rise. Where I was fishing there were about 20 -25 other guys and everyone seemed pretty decent and curtious. There were alot of fish being caught. the jig guys and bobber fisherman seemed to be picking up fish regularly. The biggest fish I saw landed was about a 32 inch hatchery fish. My biggest fish was 28 inches. Here are a few pics of the trip.
