I have been threading the minnow on a #4 baitholder hook, thru the "mouth " of the minnow, letting it stick out of the back or belly. Then I put a small split shot about 18" up the line from the minnow. Cast it upstream, let it sink for a second then twich your rod tip, reel once or twice, stop, and repeat. This rig looks exactly like a dying minnow. I have not thrown a Rapala all season and have caught a lot of big trout. Check out my reports from the Wind River on the Wyoming board. We caught some pig rainbows all on Gulp. I like to try new things but I am really excited about this Gulp minnow method. I caught a 24" brown earlier this season right where Rainey Creek dumps into that side channel. That spot gets pounded by bank fishermen. I have heard of fly fishermen using the 2.5" minnows on sinking line and slaying "em. And the best part is it's cheap !! I dont mind breking off a rig.
