Interesting stuff! I definitely have plans to get a conventional reel/rod combo so I can handle the 50lb braid I want on there, and some larger baits.
In response to some of the above knot discussion, I tried a knot yesterday while attaching a 12lb fluorocarbon leader to the 20lb braid. It's called the Seaguar Knot (I had never heard of it before). It went through the guides very smoothly when casting and retrieving, and when I got hung up, I actually pulled the 24ft. pontoon we were in while trying to get free. The knot kept holding while I was pulling and eventually it was the leader that snapped, about 4 inches from the knot. I was pretty impressed and probably will continue to use it as it's super easy to tie.
Oh, and thankfully, the lure that got hung up wasn't very expensive...otherwise, I would be more mad at losing the lure, rather than impressed about a knot...
