For braid to mono or flouro knots, I always use a bic lighter to burn the end of the braid. You have to be careful to keep the flame away from the rest of your line and your knot, but the ball that is formed from the melting braid keeps the knots from slipping. I use a lighter any time I tie knots with braid.

The Blood knot is fine. I prefer the Albright knot. Just a little easier for me to tie.

As for my striper rigs, I use a 12 foot Diawa Power-Cast rod with a 4/0 captains choice bait-caster spooled with 30lb big game when I am trolling wake-baits, and an 11 foot Eliminator Surf rod matched with a cheapo Sea-Lion Spinning reel with 20lb Big Game for swimbaits and the like.

Someday I'll be rich, and all my rigs will cost $500 a piece. Until then, Ill work with what Ive got.

I use some of my bass fishing rigs for smaller striper fishing (crankbaits, small topwaters, etc).
