Hey guys,
Thought it would be an interesting topic to see what tackle everybody uses for different species/conditions/presentations. It might give some of the newer anglers a place to start depending on what they're after.
Mine (currently used to hunt stripers mostly, but I use each for different species depending on what I'm after on any given day):
7' med-hvy spinning rod with 20lb braid. Used for topwater, trolling, and cut bait Carolina rigs for stripers/cats. Carolina rigs use 12lb fluorocarbon leader, usually 2-4 feet long. I don't attach a leader for the topwater, but I have considered it for trolling.
6'6" med spinning rod with 8lb fluorocarbon. Used for trout, dropshotting, smaller baits, or anything else I don't use the 7 footer for. Mostly lighter baits, or when fish are extremely line shy. It's a good all-around setup for me.
(FUTURE) A (mostly) dedicated trolling setup. Probably a 7'-8' med-hvy to hvy casting rod with 50lb braid and baitcasting reel...maybe one with a line counter, but I also want to use this for throwing heavier baits as well. Any suggestions?? Prob need a 25lb fluorocarbon leader if I choose to do so.
And also, what knot do you guys use for attaching braid directly to a fluorocarbon leader? I can tie an awesome blood knot, but it seems to slip because of the coating on the braid...I've heard the Albright knot is good, but I've never tried it.
