The Deadwater refers to a section of the Salmon River that completely freezes over in the winter. If you look at a map of the area the Deadwater is located between Soup and North Fork. The fish will stackup and hold upstream of this area. Once the the Deadwater breaks and the river opens up the fish are on the move and the fishing down river from North Fork picks up. This is also the unofficial beginning of the Spring combat steelhead season.
