Fishing in St. Maarten

I'm going to St. Maarten in about a week and am packing my new Salt Striker travel rod. I've done some research and it appears there are some good opportunities to catch tarpon in the salt lagoons and I have all the gear I need for that but I would also like to try to catch some fish from shore that we can eat. I understand rocky areas and bridges/piers are good places to do that but this is new territory for me and I would appreciate any advice. I'm not going to do the deep sea thing because I've done it before and it costs a bunch down there. Hopefully, I'll be able to post some photos when I get back. Thanks.
