Redondo fishing boats....

Sand bass are on the bottom, probably in about 100 feet of water. You'll need 3 or 4 ounce sinkers, and hooks of about size 2 to 2/0 (depending on the size of the bait). The best rig is to tie a dropper loop about 2 or 3 feet up the line from the end and loop your sinker onto it, tie the hook on the end of the line. If you don't know the knots, ask a deckhand to do it for you. Nose-hook the bait (sardine or anchovy), send it down to the bottom, and wait.Sliding sinkers are a no-no for bottom fishing, since when you drop your line down, they'll sink faster than the bait, and the bait can end up way up high where it won't get bit when the sinker is on the bottom. I've caught plenty of barries on heavier line (20-30 pound) and no wire, though I've lost my share of hooks, too.
