I tried to go to Magic last Saturday, but as I stopped for gas in Shosone, I discovered that my bucket with 10 ice rods and reels had fallen out of the back of my truck so I had not choice but to go home. Heard from a friend that was there that the fishing was awesome.
I talked to a couple of friends that were there Monday and they said it was terrible. 7 hours of fishing for 2 bites, or something like that.
I replaced my rods and went back to Magic on Tuesday dispite the crappy report from Monday. My son and I caught about 15 trout and 1 perch. We were fishing in water from 6 to 12 feet. They were biting very soft and if you weren't right there to get it, they were gone. There was about 7 inches of ice. Our best fish was about 18 inches or so. About 12 the fish quite biting and so we moved out to around 30 feet of water and got 8 more bites in about an hour, but only caught one fish, so we came home. Ice is good, but there is some slush on top in places.
I heard that Horsethief was pretty good for trout last week also.
