I'm not suggesting violating the rules (although peaceful civil disobedience is one of the best ways to express dislike of s stupid rule. Perhaps if we could muster several hundred ice fishers and all of us fish dam side of the buoys and then call the administrators above to come join us so we could explain why we don't like the buoys moved out and away from the dam so far)
but to say "rules is rules and if you don't like them move is not the right answer. Rules, by nature of existence, don't make them good rules. There is a rule in Idaho that you can't be seen publicly without smiling. For quite some time there was a rule in Ogden that you couldn't ride a horse backwards on main street. There are lots of dumb rules. This is another one.
Protecting the Dam is a great goal. NOBODY wants some ahole terrorist to damage the dam and cause untold amounts of destruction, but moving ice fishers away from the dam doesn't do anything. If someone wants to blow up the dam or damage it, they'll drive a huge truck bomb onto it, or fly a small plane into it, or most likely dive and damage it under the water line where it's more vulnerable.
all I'm saying is because some nameless bureaucrat in DC decided that all dams have to have a clearance zone of 200 yards, we now have a huge clearance zone on our little, low risk, non-terrorist targets here in utah.
Contact those managers, or your reps and complain about it. get the buoys changed back to their previous limits. I will be calling them as well.
