I own a huge fishing board and post on another 10 or so more encompassing 7 states. This subject comes up repeatedly and I didn't mean to be sarcastic. In all of the Western contiguous states possession is any fish that is in part or whole still in existence in a preserved state be it fresh, frozen, or smoked as long at it is still consumable. Evidently stuffing them and hanging said fish on the wall does not constitute possession though I've never read why??? On most boards you have a member of the F&G or a biologist from the agency that answers these questions. The answer is always the same however . . . most officers will tell you their main concern is daily limits for fish and once you leave the lake they aren't concerned with your real possession count unless they see something that is unseemly. That being said they do not need a search warrant to go from your front door to possible places that could store fish. You wave that right when you buy a fishing license . . . I know, a whole nother can of worms if you will. [
